Shining A Spotlight On Indigenous Musicians And Their Stories

As part of NAIDOC Week celebrations, MTV Australia has launched a new music channels initiative, Indigenous Artist Of The Moment.

Each month, MTV will be shining a spotlight on an Indigenous artist and their music. The music channels initiative is set to amplify not only an artist’s music but their stories about culture.

The first artist to be highlighted is 21 year old proud Pitjantjatjara/Torres Strait Islander woman, Miiesha. Inspired by the sounds of RnB, Gospel, Soul and the power of spoken word poetry, Miiesha sings of her people and her community with the words of a leader and a teacher.

She is nominated for five ARIA Awards and was also recently named Best New Talent at the National Indigenous Music Awards in 2020. Miiesha’s video for her song Twisting Words will be featured on MTV Hits all month.

Throughout NAIDOC week, MTV will be profiling Indigenous artists Baker Boy, Alice Skye, Birdsz, Tia Gostelow and Trials across the MTV music channels. Each artist will share personal stories about their culture, their people and what NAIDOC week means to them.
